Thomas
Thomas is a 15 year old West Highland White Terrier
who has lymphoma. He is a regular visitor to The Pets Practice.
Lymphoma
is a type of cancer found in dogs, there is no cure but remission
is possible with regular chemotherapy.
Thomas was diagnosed in 2006 and came in to visit us this month
for his 30th chemotherapy treatment!
Thomas enjoys coming in to see us – when he stays he is
put into a warm, comfortable kennel with a cosy bed. He almost
immediately moves the bed, shreds his newspaper and lays down in
the mess he has created!
He enjoys a cuddle and is a pleasure to
have here.
His chemotherapy treatment is given intravenously. He has a catheter
placed into his front leg, a chemotherapy drug is then injected into
his vein. This procedure takes about 10 minutes, Thomas takes it
all in his stride. He then stays for a few hours to make sure he
is ok to go home.
Thomas’ owner says “Tom loves going to the vets, which
makes us happy to leave him there for his chemotherapy. He is obviously
well looked after.”
We have chosen Thomas as Pet of The Month because, although he has
had a lot of veterinary treatment over the last few years, he remains
a happy, brave little dog who likes to come in and see us.
