Mitzi
Mitzi
is a 9 year old Yorkshire terrier who has been suffering from diabetes
for two years. Her owner injects her with insulin twice a
day to keep her blood glucose levels controlled.
Mitzi comes in regularly
to see us at The Pets Practice. Her owner says ‘Every time
I mention Danielle's (our head nurse's) name her ears prick up and
she gets very excited!’
When Mitzi is here she needs to have blood tests every two hours
throughout the night to check her blood glucose levels. Despite being
blind because of her diabetes, when she comes to
stay with us she seems to know where she is and we often get a wagging
tail as we walk past her kennel!
As her diabetes often causes her to drink more than an average in-patient
therefore she tends to need to urinate more regularly, so she often
gets taken outside for a little walk!
We find Mitzi a pleasure to look after - she is a very special, brave
little dog and seems to love coming to stay with us. That is why she
is The Pets Practice Pet of the Month April 2009!
