There are many worms that cats can pick up during their daily activities such as hookworms, whipworms and tapeworms. Some cats, especially hunting cats, are more prone to picking up worms that others, such as indoor cats.
Heavy worm infestations can cause a variety of signs including vomiting, diarrhoea and weight loss. The worm toxacara can also affect humans.
For these reasons it is very important to worm your cat regularly to prevent them from contracting worms. This is very easy to do and can be done by applying a simple spot-on product or giving a tablet.
Recommended worming protocol
Kittens: Worming treatment monthly until 6 months of age, then every 3 months.
Adult cats: Worming treatment every 3 months
Note: Sometimes we will advise that it is not necessary to worm to this exact protocol, so please feel free to contact one of our trained Veterinary Nurses for a free chat and we can advise you of the best protocol for your cat.
