Ultrasound scanning is a very valuable diagnostic modality in Veterinary Medicine. It allows us a ‘window into the body’ without having to perform surgery to do so. It also allows us to look at the structure of many different organs.
The best thing is that it completely painless for the animal, and can generally be done with mild sedation.
Our ultrasound skills mean that we regularly perform:-
- Abdominal ultrasound – examinations of the organs of the abdomen such as the liver, spleen kidneys, bowels and bladder.
- Heart ultrasound/echocardiography (examinations of the heart) – together with chest x-rays, the gold standard diagnostic modality for animals with heart disease.
